Dos cantos e porões mais sombrios e sujos de Brisbane, vem o quarteto que resolveu nos presentear com um álbum intenso e repleto de peso no primeiro dia do ano, para chutar longe o já passado 2016 . A Lizzard Wizzard retorna com seu segundo full lenght, intitulado Total War Power Bastard, que não vai demonstrar piedade com seus ouvidos em nenhum instante.
“Threat Level Demon” inicia o álbum trazendo um ritmo forte no qual a banda demonstra sua forma intensa de se fazer música. Os riffs são marcantes e os vocais absolutamente insanos. “Dadfather” vem a seguir com seu ritmo arrastado e apresentando uma densidade mais acentuada no instrumental, se aproximando da abordagem encontrada em bandas como Haunted e Windhand, mas com toda aquela fúria incontrolável presente na música da Lizzard Wizzard. “Nerd Smasher” é simplesmente esmagadora, de fato. A banda não tem piedade e vai emplacar um riff mais pesado que anterior em sequência, mantendo um ritmo agressivo até os instantes finais da faixa.
Falando sobre a performance dos vocais da Lizzard Wizzard, eles possuem aquela química na qual cada um reforça as qualidades dos outros, algo parecido com o existente nos primeiros álbuns do Mastodon e principalmente no Neurosis ao longo de sua carreira e mais precisamente nos trabalhos dos anos 90. Agressividade transmitida de uma forma objetiva e incontrolável, quase que ininterrupta em alguns momentos. E isso faz toda a diferença no álbum, além das faixas já mencionadas, inclua “Shithead Nihilism” onde a banda cria uma composição mais extensa e bem executada, alternando no repertório e com uma partição constante dos vocais que transformam a faixa em algo colossal. Até mesmo na monolítica “Pizza”, o desenvolvimento lento da faixa funciona para criar o climax ideal para os berros que se seguem na parte final.
Em “Snake Arrow” a banda usa e abusa das distorções, partindo para uma abordagem que se encaixa bem nos padrões do Drone e serve para permitir uma quebra no ritmo frenético que nos foi apresentado até então. Outra coisa que eu gostaria de destacar é que a banda não perdeu a criatividade na hora de dar nome às faixas, algo que vem desde a época do debut. “Medusa but She Gets You Stoned Instead of Turning You to Stone Instead of Snakes She Has Vaporizers on His Head…Drugs”, talvez seja o melhor título feito pela banda até o momento, mas mais do que isso, a faixa é uma das mais empolgantes do trabalho. Completando o álbum temos “Crystal Balls” e “Megaflora”, a primeira com uma abordagem próxima da “Dadfather” mas sem a mesma intensidade, e a segunda encerra o álbum com uma jam alucinante na qual a banda mostra ainda mais versatilidade em seu repertório, além de entregar mais alguns riffs esmagadores.
Se você quer começar o ano bem e apreciar uma sonoridade que além de pesada é muito dinâmica e bem massiva, Total War Power Bastard é mais do que recomendável. E apesar de estarmos iniciando o ano ainda, é um daqueles álbuns com potencial para se destacar e agradar à muitos.

From the darkest and dirtiest alleys and basements of Brisbane comes the quartet that decided to give us an intense and heavy album on the first day of the year to kick away the already past 2016. Lizzard Wizzard returns with his second full lenght, titled Total War Power Bastard, which will not pity your ears in no time.
“Threat Level Demon” starts the album bringing a strong rhythm in which the band demonstrates their intense way of making music. The riffs are striking and the vocals absolutely insane. “Dadfather” follows in with its sweeping rhythm and with a sharper density in instrumental, similar to the approach found in bands like Haunted and Windhand, but with all that uncontrollable fury present in the music of Lizzard Wizzard. “Nerd Smasher” is simply overwhelming, in fact. The band has no mercy and will emulate a heavier riff than previous in sequence, maintaining an aggressive rhythm until the final instants of the track.
Talking about the performance of Lizzard Wizzard’s vocals, they have that chemistry in which each one reinforces the qualities of the others, something similar to the one existing in the first albums of Mastodon and especially in Neurosis throughout his career and more precisely in the 90’s albums. Aggressiveness transmitted in an objective and uncontrollable way, almost uninterrupted at times. And that makes all the difference in the album, besides the tracks already mentioned, include “Shithead Nihilism” where the band creates a more extensive and well performed composition, alternating in the repertoire and with a constant partition of the vocals that transform the track into something colossal. Even in the monolithic “Pizza”, the slow development of the track works to create the ideal climax for the screams that follow in the final part.
In “Snake Arrow” the band uses and abuses of distortions, starting with an approach that fits well with Drone standards and serves to allow a break in the frenetic pace that has been presented to us so far. Another thing I would like to emphasize is that the band did not lose their creativity when naming the tracks, something that has been going on since the debut album. “Medusa but She Gets You Stoned Instead of Turning You to Stone Instead of Snakes She Has Vaporizers on His Head … Drugs”, is perhaps the best title ever made by the band so far, but more than that, the track is one of the highlights of the work.
Completing the album we have “Crystal Balls” and “Megaflora”, the first with a close approach to “Dadfather” but without the same intensity, and the second ends the album with a hallucinating jam in which the band shows even more versatility in their repertoire , In addition to delivering some more crushing riffs.
If you want to start the year well and appreciate a sound that besides being heavy is very dynamic and very massive, Total War Power Bastard is more than recommended. And although we’re still starting the year, it’s one of those albums with the potential to stand out and please a lot of bastards around the world.
