Os fãs da Rage of Samedi aguardam ansiosamente pelo lançamento do álbum Children of the Black Sun, que ocorrerá no dia 10 de Dezembro e novamente pelo selo da Voodoo Chamber Records. Eu recebi a promo do álbum através do guitarrista da banda Sam D. Durango (obrigado novamente, Sam!) e fiquei muito satisfeito com o resultado final do álbum. Além de Sam, a Rage of Samedi conta com Lou Cifer (vocal), Dixie King Boehme (guitarra), Nick Perkele (baixo) e Ian O’Field (bateria).
A proposta da banda reúne uma série de elementos vindos da escola mais clássica do Doom Metal, uma série de ritmos e guitarras que me lembraram algo do Paradise Lost na fase Gothic, uma densidade e agressividade vinda do Sludge Metal, além de influências vindas de nomes clássicos do Heavy Metal espalhadas ao longo do álbum. A banda soube como encaixar todos esses elementos de forma precisa ao longo do trabalho e em nenhum momento ficam dispersos ou mal utilizados.
O clima de angústia, desespero e raiva é algo constantemente abordado na música feita pela Rage of Samedi, a faixa de abertura “Never Obey” reflete isso com clareza. Os ritmos contagiantes e riffs pesados de faixas como “God Accepts” e “Flagg”, transbordam energia e contam com uma performance brutal e impactante da bateria.
Em “Choose Your God” a banda entra em um caminho mais sombrio e executa uma série de ritmos arrastados repletos de densidade, com grande destaque para o equilíbrio apresentado pelo instrumental e os vocais furiosos de Lou Cifer. Sobre o vocal, ele apresenta uma variação impressionante ao decorrer do álbum, desde berros repletos de ódio e num tom insano à outros que transbordam um tom melancólico acentuado e soam bem agradáveis, isso pode ser exemplificado em faixas como “Children of the Black Sun” e “Control the Freak”.
“Diggin the Ashes” faz um contraste interessante e bem executado entre riffs mais melódicos e pesados, a faixa é uma ótima apresentação da vertente mais dentro do Doom Metal feita pela banda. “Sailing” é repleta de uma atmosfera completamente sombria que nos envolve ao longo dos seis minutos da faixa. Aqui as guitarras dão um show à parte demonstrando muita técnica e diversidade. “Raven Black Soul” é o grande desfecho de Children of the Black Sun e uma das melhores composições do álbum. Cada aspecto envolvendo a faixa é repleto de qualidade e por ser mais extensa que as demais, permite a banda prover uma série de alternações de ritmos e criar grande progressões no instrumental, isso sem perder sua essência em nenhum instante.Um ritmo que te arrasta para uma série de riffs impiedosos e sombrios, trazendo algumas passagens mais groove e outros momentos de maior extremidade, como sempre contando com uma performance destrutiva do vocal que faz cada participação ao longo da faixa ser marcante.
Children of the Black Sun é uma oferenda dentro dos padrões que a banda apresentou em seus dois trabalhos anteriores e ao mesmo tempo que apresenta uma sonoridade mais pesada e extrema, demonstra versatilidade em criar passagens mais melódicas e cadenciadas.

Rage of Samedi fans eagerly await the release of the album Children of the Black Sun, which will take place on December 10th and again by Voodoo Chamber Records label. I received the album promo through guitarist Sam D. Durango (thank you again, Sam!) and I’m very pleased with the final result of the album. In addition to Sam, Rage of Samedi features Lou Cifer (vocals), Dixie King Boehme (guitar), Nick Perkele (bass) and Ian O’Field (drums).
The band’s proposal brings together a series of elements from the most classic school of Doom Metal, a series of rhythms and guitars that reminded me of something of Paradise Lost in the Gothic phase, a density and aggressiveness from Sludge Metal, as well as influences coming from names of Heavy metal classics spreaded throughout the album. The band knew how to fit all these elements accurately throughout the work and at no time are scattered or misused.
The atmosphere of anguish, despair and anger is something constantly reflected in the music made by Rage of Samedi, the opening track “Never Obey” pass it on with clearly. Contagious rhythms and heavy riffs of tracks like “God Accepts” and “Flagg” overflow energy and feature a brutal and impactful drum performance.
In “Choose Your God” the band enters a darker path and performs a series of heavy rhythms full of density, with a great emphasis on the balance presented by the instrumental and Lou Cifer’s furious vocals. Talnking about the vocals, it features an impressive variation throughout the album, from hate-filled screams and insane feelings to others that overflow a pronounced melancholy tone and sound very enjoyable, this can be exemplified in tracks like “Children of the Black Sun” And “Control the Freak”.
“Diggin the Ashes” makes an interesting and well-executed contrast between more melodic and heavy riffs, the track is a great rendition of the most strand in Doom Metal made by the band. “Sailing” is filled with a completely somber atmosphere that envelops us throughout the six minutes of the track. Here the guitars give a show apart demonstrating a lot of technique and diversity. “Raven Black Soul” is the great ending of Children of the Black Sun and one of the best compositions on the album. Each aspect involving the track is full of quality and because it’s more extensive than the others, it allows the band to provide a series of rhythm alternations and to create great progressions in the instrumental, without losing its essence in no time. A rhythm that drags you to a series of ruthless and somber riffs, bringing a few more groove passages and other moments of greater extrimity, as always counting on a destructive performance of the vocal that makes each participation along the track be striking.
Children of the Black Sun is an offering within the standards that the band presented in its two previous works and at the same time that presents a heavier and extreme sonority, demonstrates versatility in creating passages more melodic and cadenced.
